Requirements for All Faculty
Faculty essential duties and responsibilities are listed in the faculty job description, and includes, but is not limited to, the following:
1.) Deliver effective instruction by:
- Assuming primary responsibility for curriculum development and revision in conjunction with the College’s policies and procedures, ensuring both rigor and the quality of instruction;
- Considering differences of students in order to design and support a range of appropriate learning activities;
- Supporting learning through student engagement by creating a positive classroom atmosphere that encourages active and collaborative learning, student effort, academic challenge and student/ faculty interaction; and
- Meeting student learning outcomes required by the State of Texas through its Texas Higher Education Coordinating Board and the accreditation bodies over TSC.
2.) Assess student learning by:
- Designing assessments that measure or demonstrate student growth;
- Sequencing learning opportunities throughout courses and programs to build student understanding and knowledge;
- Aligning assessment with learning opportunities;
- Evaluating student’s mastery of program and course student learning outcomes as well as the THECB core curriculum objectives as required; and
- • Using defined student learning outcomes to plan, develop, document and evaluate the effectiveness of teaching activities.
3.) Manage the learning environment by:
- Ensuring that accurate and comprehensive syllabi are in place that incorporate college, departmental, and instructor requirements;
- Submitting grades and providing constructive feedback as well as other relevant information to students within 24 to 48 hours throughout the semester;
- Conducting classes punctually and in accordance with the prescribed meeting schedule;
- Verifying that assessment assignments and rubrics are provided to students within the Learning Management System (LMS);
- Ensuring student work for assessment assignments are archived in LMS.
4.) Enhance the student’s learning experience by:
- Integrating concrete, workplace and life learning experiences to encourage critical thinking, interdisciplinary skills and teamwork;
- Employing methods that develop student understanding of discipline‐ specific thinking, practices and procedures, as well as interdisciplinary applications, to create academic literacy; and
- Working with students and employers in occupational settings as required by or appropriate to the academic discipline.
5.) Collaborate with colleagues across the College in the construction and continuous improvement of measurable learning outcomes to include the Texas Higher Education Coordinating Board (THECB) core curriculum objectives, course student learning outcomes, program student learning outcomes, and additional TSC’s objectives.
6.) Engage in ongoing professional development, community service, and college service.
7.) Mentor and advise students.
8.) Maintain a learning-centered environment by being available to students during posted office hours. Office doors will remain open during scheduled office hours.
9.) Attend all department meetings
