RNSG-1307 Nursing Jurisprudence
A course in nursing jurisprudence and ethics with an emphasis on personal and professional responsibility. Study of the laws and regulations related to the provision of safe and effective professional nursing care. This course lends itself to either a blocked or integrated approach. Prerequisites: RNSG-2307, RNSG-1327, RNSG-2260. Lec 3, Cr 3

- Describe the roles of the professional nurse in a variety of health care settings.
- Identify standards of nursing practice.
- Discuss issues concerning professional boundaries.
- Discuss supervisor liability.
- Describe the rights of the nurse in a peer review situation.
- Relate the difference between minor and reportable incidents.
- Discuss other legal and ethical parameters of professional nursing according to the Nursing Practice Act for the State of Texas.
